I received a pair of these funky ‘Stardust’ wellingtons from Briars to test, and to be honest, wondered how long it would take me to trash them. Briers describe them as ‘fashion footwear’, and I assumed this meant they’d be fine for a little light gardening. Still, I needed a pair and pulled these on to give them the test of their lives!
The fit was snug but surprisingly comfortable. Even though I am a wide fitting, they didn’t pinch my toes. Good start! The tread is thinner than I’m used to, but they had sufficient grip to deal with the icy weather we had this winter (remember it!?). The heel was pretty effective at breaking some stubborn ice in the water trough too! And, my feet didn’t get any colder than they might have been in a thicker soled pair of wellies.
But the real test was the miles I walked in these boots. Because they looked pretty cool, as well as wearing them to do the horses, I used them for any country walks or other outdoorsy social occasions and they must have covered quite a distance, all without a blister in sight. I also got some nice comments about them from my more fashion conscious friends.
Sadly, just recently, I stepped on a nail, so through no fault of their own, that was the end of my trendy boots. I’m tempted to get another pair, but this time the ‘clog’ version which look great.
