A Feast of Entertainment at The Liverpool International Horse Show

Posted on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 by Heather Dodd

THIS year’s Liverpool International Horse Show is set for a feast of top class action and a host of new and exciting entertainment.

Luminoso is a ‘never before seen in the UK’ act that is set to light up the Echo Arena each performance.

Think stunning horses, stunt riders and lots of fire!

Said Liverpool International President, Nina Barbour: “We are very excited to be bringing a brand new equestrian extravaganza to the UK.

“Luminoso features fire, pyrotechnics and some of the best horse trick riding in the world.  Six highly skilled horses and riders will be wowing us with their acrobatic displays to a dramatic soundtrack and plenty of thrilling action!”

Also new for 2017 is live music from Rick Parfitt Jnr (son of Status Quo’s legendary singer & guitarist Rick Parfitt) and the RPJ band which is comprised of some of the finest session musicians in the country.  They are famed for being the best party rock band in the UK, and will be performing every session with a very special party set to bring in the New Year!

The Friday evening will feature a top class Dressage to Music – Inter 1 Freestyle – competition with leading riders from the UK and Europe riding some of the most exciting up and coming horsey stars on the dressage circuit.

The crowd favourite…the Equitop Myoplast Puissance is the major class of the Saturday evening performance and features the one and only big red wall, in this high jump classic.

Can a Brit win this year? It’s been a class dominated by the Irish so far at Liverpool International with Peter Smyth taking the title in year one, and last year’s victory going to Chris Megahey.

Another Irish star Billy Twomey has been crowned the Liverpool International Grand Prix Champion for two year’s running and the International CSI 4* Show jumping will see 30 of the best British and foreign horse and rider combinations travelling from all over Europe to compete at the Echo Arena.

All eyes will be set on the Liverpool International Grand Prix worth a huge €100,000 on the Sunday evening, and the first part of a very special night of New Year’s Eve celebrations.

This year’s Liverpool International Horse Show will see a host of leading names in action from December 29 to 31, at The Echo Arena on Liverpool’s iconic waterfront.

Championship Win for Matilda and Bella

Birkinbrook Arabella TopSpec BSPS Supreme Working Hunter Pony Champion ridden by Matilda Lanni and owned by Milla Lanni

YOUNG Matilda Lanni was in flying form at a rain-soaked Royal International Horse Show when winning the TopSpec BSPS Working Hunter Pony Championship.

Now 13-years-old, Matilda and her ride of six years, Birkinbrook Arabella put in a fantastic clear round over holding ground that saw just four combinations finish on a clean sheet in the jumping phase.

Based near Peterborough, Matilda is the daughter of Matthew and Milla Lanni and she has recently also turned her attention to show jumping with a place on the Children on Horses squad in Slavakia with Newbridge Master Brown.

Matilda and Bella, now 12, first secured the TopSpec BSPS 133cm Working Hunter Pony section before going on to take the prestigious overall championship.

“Bella is just a star and is naturally very scopey so coped really well with the ground which had endured a lot of rain throughout the show,” said Matilda.

“We have been together a long time now and have a fantastic bond.  We are a real team which helps so much when the conditions are difficult.

“She is also a chestnut and very determined by nature which always comes to the fore in the big classes and when it matters most.

“The judges also awarded us a 10 for our show which made it all the more special.  A win and championship at a show like the Royal International is just very special.”

Taking the TopSpec BSPS WHP 143cm section and Reserve Champion award was Annabel James with Pebbly Grey Fox while Philippa Weir and Freckleton Maximus took the honours in the 153cm class.
