Byfield-based horsemanship expert Grant Bazin and his collaborator Dan Wilson will be showing local equestrian enthusiasts the secrets of sorting out equine problems at a special demonstration next month.

Sometimes called ‘horse whisperers’, Mr Bazin and Mr Wilson are practical horsemanship specialists.

Mr Bazin and Mr Wilson, from Cornwall, will be taking on three projects in front of an audience at Home Farm, near Kineton on Saturday, July 27 to raise funds for the Riding for the Disabled branch at Stratford-upon-Avon.

Both worked for world-famous American horse trainer Monty Roberts who changed the face of handling horses with his cooperative techniques, using the horse’s own language and communication style.

The two have been involved with horses all their lives and both help people and horses all over the world on a daily basis.

The Bazin family has been brought up among horses and have made them their lives. Mr Bazin’s brother Darren is a nationally renowned farrier and his sister Liza an expert in training and driving carriage horses.

A former jockey – Grant rode for Kim Bailey and Geoff Hubbard – he has also been a successful bull rider, working the circuits of rodeos in the USA and Australia before riding for Monty Roberts for a number of years.

He now helps horses with problems in all disciplines, from racehorses who are terrified of the starting stalls to top show jumpers with issues being ridden in company.

Mr Wilson comes from a long line of horse trainers (third generation), learning to ride before he could walk. He has lived and worked surrounded by wild and dangerous cattle and horses his whole life.

The methods the two use are those of non violence, predominantly based on the work of the legendary Monty Roberts, who Grant and Dan worked closely with for many years, putting their own marks on the methods Monty Roberts pioneered.

At their July demonstration, the two will be taking on three horses, each needing a different aspect of training or desensitization.

It is likely to include an untouched horse that will be ridden for the first time, one with a loading problem and one that bucks or has a ridden problem.

The two men will not have seen or touched the horses before the day.

The demonstration takes place between 2pm-5pm. Tickets are £10 or £5 for children available from Mr Bazin on 07548 374289 or Clare Blakemore from Riding for the Disabled on 07990 581612.
