Solihull Riding Club Christmas Fun Show, 14th December 2014

Posted on Monday, January 26, 2015 by Barbara Gadd

Solihull Riding Club embraced the festive spirit at the weekend (14th December) with a jam packed schedule for their annual Christmas Fun Show. The venue’s car parks were heaving with beautifully turned out festive themed horses, ponies and riders.

The most creative of the classes were certainly with the Fancy Dressage and the Fancy Dress at the start of the day! A kaleidoscope of costumes were on display from Disney’s Frozen to Father Christmas and his elves. President Jeanne Holland had a tough time judging and deciding who should be placed, especially with the high levels of effort that had gone into making the costumes! An extra special well done to all of the wonderfully behaved horses and ponies covered head to toe in Christmassy drapes, tinsel and fairy lights!

After the showing classes it was time for the exciting classes to celebrate Christmas at Solihull Riding Club! The 20 competitors had clearly been practising jumping blue barrels as there were still 10 in the running to be placed when there was only one barrel left! Next up was the hilarious Big Pants and Handbag Race where competitors enter in pairs and have to jump a course wearing giant pants and a handbag before changing with the second member in the team. The fastest clear time wins. Forty individuals entered in 20 teams and was hotly contested! The Accumulator showjumping class proved intense with many entries followed by the Mini Puissance which ended up being far from ‘mini’ as the winner jumped a clear 1m 40cm!

By the time the Christmas show had ended the evening had set in, so the ponies donned in fairy lights had no problems navigating to the furthest end of the car park! A big thank you to all who joined Solihull Riding Club for the Christmas Fun Show!

The sun shone on Weston Park for Sunday’s full day of entries, though there was a keen wind so woolly hats were the order of the day for the many spectators. Janet Plant and her team’s hard work paid off with the excellent going XC, resulting in many Badminton entries running in the Advanced. William Fox-Pitt ran his three Badminton horses as well as his two Kentucky horses.  The day started at 0850 with the U21OI and finished at 1815 with the Advanced, running virtually non stop with just a brief gap for the change over to the Advanced section.
