Lucie proves her worth at Swalcliffe Championships

Posted on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 by Heather Dodd

Lucie Humphries for Central Horse News
Nineteen year old Lucie Humphries had a great weekend at the SEIB National Horse Trials Championships at Grange Farm, Swalcliffe Park on 2-4th Aug.

Lucie represents Swindon & District riding club and came 1st in her section, 1st in the under 25’s had the best dressage score from all the 96 competitors, coming 3rd overall as well as coming 5th as part of the SDRC team 90 (other members were Kerrie Fleming, Kerry Alexander and Lynne Hawkins).

Her horse  Miss Digion (Sherry) has come back to compete this year after being injured last July with  check ligament damage and was on box rest until early this year. Lucie has worked tirelessly on her hardening and fitness training, building her up gradually. She also fits this around attending Cirencester Agricultural College studying Equine Business Management.

Lucie puts much of her success down to excellent tuition from Caron Roberts for her cross country skills, Jon Bowman for show jumping and Marie Kent for dressage, though she admits that masses of commitment, time and money (bank of mum & dad) are also a factor!
