Feeling Festive with McNab Eventing
Posted on Friday, December 15, 2017 by Heather Dodd
As our thoughts turn to the festive season we find out what Kevin and Emma McNab get up to over the Christmas period.
The Robinson Animal Healthcare sponsored riders will be spending Christmas in the UK but as native Australians they are more used to enjoying Christmas in their swimwear on the beach!
This year will be more winter woollies and log fires for Kevin and Emma but with the horses still to be taken care of, Emma provides an insight into their Christmas routine before the horses return to work in January ahead of the new eventing season.
When do you hang up your Christmas decorations?
We always hang up our decorations at the start of December; once December has started it is never too early.
When do you do your Christmas shopping?
No matter how much I plan to do it early, I usually end up madly rushing around very last minute a couple of days before!
Do you have any Christmas traditions?
We always have turkey for Christmas lunch and if we are in Australia we are most likely at the beach at some stage during the day.
What are the horses expecting this Christmas?
A nice relaxing day off!
Is there anything you have asked for this Christmas?
As we’ll be in England this year for Christmas we have asked for summer, however I don’t think we will be lucky with this one!
What is your horsey routine on Christmas Day?
It’s the one day of the year we are usually very unhorsey. If the girls all have Christmas off then we will muck out and feed up but usually we are lucky enough to have the day completely doing family things.
How do you spend Christmas Day?
We wake up and have a small breakfast, before opening presents. When we are in Australia we swim before and after Christmas lunch. We then usually have a light dinner if we can fit it in after a massive lunch. Basically a day of eating!
Do you spend Christmas Day with family, how many people sit round the table?
We always spend it with family, sitting down to lunch with anywhere from 10 – 30 people.
Do your pets get Christmas presents?
Our little dog Millie gets her own ‘leftovers’ Christmas lunch.
