Local riders at the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials

Since the cancellation of Badminton 2012, when the course that director and designer Hugh Thomas had in mind was for a pre Olympic Games work out, one or two subtle changes to the track were made, though the course was in essence the same as 2012.
One of the most unusual obstacles must have been the Rolex Crossing, when all eyes will have been on the clock to see whether that elusive optimum time could be achieved.
Alzheimer’s Research UK was chosen as charity of the year for the 2013 Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials. The charity is endorsed by a distinguished line-up of Olympic event riders, including Richard Meade, Daisy Berkeley and William Fox-Pitt.
In the final reckoning, New Zealand’s Jock Padget wowed the crowds with a cool debut performance on Clifton Promise to lift the Badminton laurels.
Central region riders on form included:
Tom McEwen and Dry Old Party who finished 19th in their first Badminton. Tom is based in Wiltshire and was awareded the Laurence Rook Trophy for the hightest placed British rider who has not previously completed Badminton; and also received a saddle presented by the Worshipful Company of Saddlers for the British rider with the best score who is under 25.
Narrowly missing out on the Grand Slam, Wiltshire’s Andrew Nicholson and Nereo who finished 3rd.
Stefano Brecciaroli and Apollo VD Wendi Kurt Hoeve who finished 6th. Stefano is based in Wiltshire with Andrew Nicholson;
Oxfordshire based Vittoria Panizzon and Borough PennyZ who finished 7th.
Aoife Clark and Master Crusoe who finished 8th. Aoife is based in Oxfordshire
Our June issue’s front cover stars, Warwickshire’s Sarah Stretton and Skip On who finished 28th.
Wiltshire based Beanie Sturgis and Lebowski who finished 29th.
Paul Tapner and Kilronan who finished 20th, also Wiltshire based.
Sammi McLeod from Gloucestershire and Kincooley who won the Dubarry Burghley Young Event Horse 4 yr olds.
Michael Jackson and Brocka Quin who was 2nd in the BYEH 4 yr olds and 9th on CSF Cool Guy in the 5 yr olds.
