| GRASS SICKNESS AND SOME THOUGHTS ON ITS PREVENTION (from April / May 2006 issue) >>> |
06/04/2006 |
| Could your horse be at risk? The nutritional status of the horse and health of the gut is critical. The anatomy of the gut in particular the muscle at the entry to the stomach which prevents the horse from being sick, means that the quality of a horse's diet is more important than, say, in ruminants. >>> |

| THE FRENCH CONNECTION (from Dec 05/Jan 06 issue) >>> |
08/12/2005 |
| True equestrian art is a moment captured in time and then lost forever as soon as the movement ceases. It is never the same, and never boring.
Just recently I have become involved in training and making saddles for event riders. The dressage section of a three day event I have found 'interesting' to say the least! The discussion as to whether or not the original French style of dressage, as practised in the eighteenth century, is preferable to the somewhat rigid methods used by the 'kick and pull brigade' is needed more now than ever before, I feel. >>> |

| THE ULTIMATE SHOWMAN (from Oct/Nov 05 issue) >>> |
29/11/2005 |
| A visit to Gerard Naprous' Wychwood Stud in Buckinghamshire is not unliek visiting the 'back lot' of a Hollywood film studio - amidst a jumble of wooden dwellings with somewhat of a mediaeval middle-European look about them stand a mixture of carriages and carts of every description and period, and large horseboxes. The wooden buildings house family and staff alongside stables - where a variety of equines stand contentedly tucking into haynets. >>> |

| CAN KINESIOLOGY DETERMINE WHETHER YOUR HORSE NEEDS A FEED SUPPLEMENT? (from Aug/Sept 05 issue) >>> |
29/11/2005 |
| When CHN asked me to write about kinesiology or muscle testing, I readily agreed as it is a technique that I use all the time, but writing about it is considerably more difficult than I thought! It's a bit like divining for water courses; using two light aluminium rods I can walk across a field or yard and very accurately pick up where drains, water pipes and so on run underground. It is something I've learned from my dad and it has been very useful, but not a skill I've talked about much because however you try and explain it, particularly on paper, it sounds fairly ridiculous! >>> |
