In the Ribbons, February 2015

Posted on Thursday, March 12, 2015 by Heather Dodd

Zara Heathcote
Zara Heathcote and her new horse Martha Imp attended the Trailblazers Dressage Competition at Vale View on 9th November 2014. During their first test Martha was far too terrified to go near the judges car! Going in first for the second test had Zara nervous but other than a break in the second canter Martha was brilliant and won the class with a qualification to the second round. This goes to prove that sometimes mares can be with you or against you.  Zara is a student at Loughborough University and keeps Martha at Vale View so that she can combine studies with riding. She hopes to event Martha next year.

Zara will receive a prize CHN. She is just one of the riders who submitted a photo for our online feature – other riders in the ribbons are featured on the opposite page and on our website at www.centralhorsenews.co.uk

Marie Bak
“This is a picture of me on the gorgeous Battlestown Dun Guy (aka Connor). I had had him less than 2 weeks when he won the M&M and the Family Horse at Fulready show in September 2014. Connor came to me on a temporary loan as my horse had torn a tendon and was off work. Connor is only 5 but is a absolute star and much loved already.”

Doug Pinnegar
“This photo was taken a few months back when I came first in my first and only dressage test at Swallowfield Equestrian, in the intro B test. The horse’s name is ‘Cootehill’, owned by Norma Eaves”, writes Doug Pinnegar.

Lara Gorse
Pictured above is 12 year old Lara Gorse and her pony Covenham Jade. The pair are from Mountsorrel near Loughborough and were recently talent spotted by Tina and Graham Fletcher through taking part in a tough selection process at Countryside Live in Harrogate. Lara and Jade (pictured here with Tina and Graham) took top spot out of 47 other riders and won the coveted prize of 2 days’ training with the Fletchers. The organisers said “Lara stood out for her willingness to learn and her stylish riding.”

Emma Rowbottom
Emma Rowbottom tells us: “This is a picture of me and my horse Harley at our first ever affiliated show jumping competition at Gracelands equestrian recently. I’d decided 2015 was the year to push ourselves up the levels and I was so pleased with how well he did at his first go at it. We won the Dodson & Horrell 85cm National Amateur and came second in the British Novice. Fingers crossed this is the first of many!

Emma will receive a prize from one of this month’s sponsors, Harry Hall and Tottie Clothing. She is just one of the riders who submitted a photo for our online feature – other riders in the ribbons are featured below as well as in our printed magazine.
