Winner of our October In the Ribbons column is Samantha Firth and Fly Boy, who are pictured here at the British Riding Clubs National Horse Trials Championships this August.

Samantha says: “I bought Ollie last year as a six year old to do pony club and riding club dressage, show jumping and cross country. His best discipline has always been show jumping, and when I first got him, our dressage scores were in the high 50s and he was really green at XC. With some hard work and with Ollie being very willing and keen to learn, in the space of a year, we’ve progressed to dressage scores in the high 60s/70s, and coming 7th in our first ever 3DE. Then at the BRC National Horse Trials Championships, we achieved a 24.4 dressage, and went clear SJ and XC, with our team winning and coming individually 2nd.  So pleased that all the hard work with this little chap has paid off!

Samantha will receive a prize from one of our sponsors, Harry Hall and Tottie Clothing. She is just one of the riders who submitted a photo for our online feature.  Other featured riders include:

Sally Unwin

“Finally me and my little homebred foal High Court Harry are in the ribbons! We came 1st at our first show – in the prelim 4 dressage at Coleshill Heath RC Show on 20th July. I’m so chuffed with him, all the waiting for him to grow up has finally paid off!” says Sally Unwin from Warwickshire.

Sophie Taylor

“Hello, My name is Sophie Taylor, aged 7. This is a picture of me and my 13 year old bay gelding, Parvadean Rupert. I have just started affiliated showjumping and my first competition was at Bury Farm on the 19th/20th July where I jumped the 75cm double clear and just rolled a pole in our first 85cm. I am a keen showjumper and want to follow in the footsteps of my 16 year old twin sisters Abbie and Kellie Taylor.”

Oxfordshire based Amanda Mills tells us: “On Sunday 7th September we competed at Addington Manor’s unaffiliated Summer Dressage Championships with our own ex-racehorse Baikaline. I was so proud of her when she won the highest placed RoR horse in the Prelim Championship class with 68.29% and was placed 4th overall in a class of 30. Baikaline was certainly not the easiest racehorse to retrain but she is thoroughly enjoying her new dressage career and she makes me so proud of what we have achieved together!”
