Stoneleigh Riding Club in partnership with Princethorpe College and Kingsley School held their eleventh Annual Two Day Horse Trials at Offchurch Bury, Leamington Spa, Warwickshire by kind permision of Mr Harry Johnson on 24th and 25th May. The event incorporating an 80cm team and individual class. 240 competitors from all over the UK took part ranging in age from 9yrs to 70 yrs old.. All proceeds from the programmes , kindly printed by Princethorpe College were donated to WANAA Air Ambulance.

The inclement weather conditions during the few days prior to the event could have provided a potential headache for the organizers who thought it may turn into a ‘Glastonbury’ for horses. However the experience of running this event for so many years gave them the confidence that the excellent ground at Offchurch Bury would stand up admirably under these conditions. This proved to be the case over both days where the show jumping arena, steeplechase and cross country courses provided good going.

In addition to many local and regional team and individual competitors, the event once again attracted teams from all over the country; representatives from 26 different riding clubs and 34 schools.

This National Schools and Riding Club competition is a true test of speed and stamina with each competitor completing six phases over the two days. Saturday saw the dressage and show jumping phases followed by Sunday’s test of speed and stamina with 7 Kms of Roads and Tracks, a 1Km steeplechase course and 2.5 Kms of cross country incorporating more than 24 fences.

The Riding Club 80cm and 90cm Team competition was won by Stoneleigh Riding Club from Area 5 and the 100cm Team competition was won by Shrewsbury and District Riding Club.

Organizer Andy Ruyssevelt said ‘’I would like to say huge thank you to all the competitors and the 130 stewards, judges and helpers who worked tirelessly to ensure that the event was a great success and especially to the Bleloch family local farmers, who rescued the weekend by pulling the horseboxes on and off.
