Bicester Riding Club Summer Dressage Series Show

Posted on Friday, October 25, 2013 by Heather Dodd

As anticipated, the first show in the Bicester Riding Club Summer Dressage Series on 12th May was a huge success. With 44 horses competing it was a very busy day and luckily the weather was good too!

Thanks to the backing of new sponsors, Stable Quarters Horse Box Hire, the new, luxury, three tier rosettes went down to 8th place so even more people went home with a smile on their face and a superb rosette to cherish.

Emma Richardson-Steele, the club chairman said, ‘We are very lucky to have a willing team of helpers so these shows are well run and well supported.  We even provide you with a caller if you need one (or if you suddenly find you’ve forgotten the test you learned so well!)’.

Bicester Riding Club is becoming well-known and much loved for its excellent catering, particularly their delicious chocolate brownies, courtesy of Emma Bradley, their passionate Club Secretary. Emma is not only an outstanding chef, she is also the British Riding Clubs Volunteer of the Year!

On to Sunday 18th August the Warwickshire Senior A team (pictured) of Astrid Straume-Brown from North Newington, Isabella Holman-West from Atherstone on Stour, Kieran Tuttiett from Stretton on Dunsmore, Jess Wild from Lower Tadmarton and Isobel Yates from Sibford Gower competed for a coveted place in the Horse of the Year Show in the 15 team Senior Runners Up competition for teams who have not been to HOYS in the last 10 years.

The team have had an excellent year winning several prestigious competitions including the Royal Bath & West and the New Forest Show, and had prepared well and even had a team talk with Kate Allenby, Olympic Bronze medallist and Pony Club Head Mentor the evening before.

There were some anxious moments and close competition in the final but the team held their nerve and won, beating teams from Wales and Northern Ireland into 2nd and 3rd place.

The win for the seniors to compete for the Prince Philip Cup at this year’s Horse of The Year Show is a huge achievement as Warwickshire Hunt has never competed at HOYS before, and is the culmination of 5 + years hard work and commitment by all concerned, including Zack Mallalieu of Epwell the 6th team member. Not only that, but the double is a huge accolade for the club and the first time it has been achieved!

The focus now is to train hard before the event takes place in early October, and most of all to fundraise the £10k that is needed to cover the essential entry, stabling and other costs that will enable the team to represent Warwickshire at HOYS. Donating by Just Giving is easy and they will automatically pass on the money raised to Warwickshire Hunt Pony Club, and claim an extra 25% Gift Aid on every eligible donation. http://www.justgiving.com/WHPCHOYSteam.

Your support and generosity is very much appreciated – THANK YOU!
