Children who love horses and enjoy public speaking are being invited to enter a Junior Tour Guide competition at The National Stud.
Tourism hub Discover Newmarket wants youngsters aged between 8 and 16 to submit up to 50 words, explaining why they would make a good tour guide. The winner will receive a family ticket to The National Stud, lunch in the Wavertree’s Coffee Shop worth £50 and have the chance to practice their skills under the expert guidance of Discover Newmarket tour guide Larry Bowden, the only guide in East Anglia to be shortlisted for VisitEngland’s Tourism Superstar 2019 Award. Entries should be emailed to competition@discovernewmarket.co.uk, along with full contact details.
The National Stud is home to impressive stallions, retired National Hunt legends and the potential superstars of the future. Children can visit free with a Blue Peter badge and are given fun quiz sheets to complete as they tour the 500-acre stud farm.
Megan Pollexfen, Manager of Discover Newmarket, commented: “We’re giving children the rare opportunity of getting some top tips from one of the best tour guides in the country as they enjoy seeing our incredible horses and learning about how The National Stud works. Along with Palace House and family days at Newmarket Racecourses, Newmarket is a great place for child-friendly outings over the Summer holidays.”
The National Heritage Centre for Horseracing and Sporting Art at Palace House is a former sporting residence of King Charles II. Children can groom ponies on weekends in August and have a go on the racehorse simulator. The venue has also recently been registered as a Children’s University Destination. Palace House is another attraction in Newmarket that allows free entrance to Blue Peter Badge holders.
Newmarket’s July Course is hosting a Family Fun Day on Friday 23rd August featuring sports day races and the Horseplay Roadshow, where children can learn about the sport through role play and interactive games. A very famous bear will also be appearing throughout the day!
For those budding scientists out there, The National Heritage Centre for Horseracing and Sporting Art at Palace House has begun their Summer of Science with a host of experiments, activities and trails to enjoy with all the family. It won’t just be your kids that come away learning something new!
Discover Newmarket’s host of educational tours give visitors the opportunity to go behind the scenes of the sports training and breeding operations to meet the organisations, trainers, equine stars and dedicated workforce.
Please visit www.discovernewmarket.co.uk for tickets and email competition@discovernewmarket.co.uk by Saturday 31st August to enter the Junior Tour Guide competition, giving full contact details and 50 words about why you would be a worthy winner.
