HOYS STEP UP TO HELP EQUESTRIAN CHARITY IN NEED

On hearing the tragic news of the Mark Davies Injured Riders Fund’s major loss due to the theft of their van and stock destined for Burghley Horse Trials, Horse of the Year Show has stepped in to offer the Charity a ‘Money Can’t Buy Experience’ prize at the show with a chance to meet Olympic dressage rider Carl Hester, as part of a prize package donated to help raise funds for the Charity.
The prize which will be auctioned off to raise funds includes 2 x Hospitality tickets for the Thursday evening, three-course meal, table service and a meet and greet with Carl Hester immediately after his rider signing.
Commenting on the prize donation, Rosemary Lang, Administrator and Fund Co-ordinator for the Charity said:
“We always rely heavily on Burghley to raise funds for the following year, so the loss of our stock and the van has had a devastating effect on our small Charity. We cannot thank Horse of the Year Show enough for donating such a fabulous experience and hope it will go some way towards recovering the loss we have incurred to ensure that we can continue to support equestrians in need.”

Building project provides stability for Cotswolds Riding for the Disabled charity

Cotswold Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA), based at Cheltenham racecourse, are about to open their brand-new stable block on schedule and within budget. The grand opening by British Paralympic dressage star Natasha Baker will take place on 29th of September.
The stables replace half a dozen old stalls next to the riding school. Claire Jenkins, Cotswold’s general manager, said, “The stalls had served us well but after thirty-five years were in poor repair and no longer fit for purpose. The new secure stables will allow us to house ponies close to the school overnight, which means our volunteers will no longer have to walk them 20 minutes back to their fields in the dark and rain. This will really help our after-school clubs to run smoothly whatever the weather.”
The new stable block boasts ten large loose boxes, a wash area and a secure tack room. Cotswold raised over £160,000, which was enough to fund not just the stables but also refurbishment of the kitchen and toilet areas and the purchase of a muck trailer – unglamorous but essential! Claire says, “We are so grateful to all the organisations which contributed to this project, not just for the funding but also for all the practical expertise which was so generously given.” The donors included the Charles Irving Charitable trust, a grant made possible by players of the People’s Postcode Lottery and Mid County Co-op along with six other donors and an entire workforce of volunteers. Today nearly 26,000 children and adults benefit from Riding for the Disabled’s activities all over the UK, but there are thousands more waiting to join in. Support from donations and legacies is vital to RDA to ensure that even more people’s lives can be changed for the better – and volunteers are always needed!
