British Team Chasing – Exciting Spring ahead for team chasers

Posted on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 by Sasha Melia

British Team Chasing has confirmed its exciting 2019 spring event calendar which begins on Sunday 17th March, with the Skinners’ Pet Foods National Championship at the Fernie at its heart.

Featuring two brand new events, the spring season has something for everyone.

The Beaufort and Farmers Bloodhounds Team Chases will run novice and intermediate classes and all others also have Skinners’ Pet Foods open qualifiers (the winner of the 2019 Skinners’ Pet Foods National Championship receives automatic qualification for the 2020 final).

Set in classic hedge and stone wall country at Sherston, Wiltshire, the Beaufort was due to have its inaugural run in 2018 but despite gargantuan efforts from the organisers was finally defeated by the Beast from the East. With an extra year for the course to mature, this event promises exciting sport and a perfect curtain raiser.

The Farmers Bloodhounds are welcomed to the team chasing family with their first event, to be run at Plum Park, near Towcester, Northamptonshire. Established as a hunter trial venue, sneak previews of the new team chase course reveal some of the meaty hedges which this Midland pack are known to adore!

Much loved by competitors and spectators alike, the Fernie event is set in a stunning amphitheatre in the heart of Leicestershire, offering thrills and spills galore. It returned to its popular status as the venue for the Skinners’ Pet Foods National Championship in 2018 and the course promises further developments hinted at by last year’s spectacular new turnback hedges.

Competitors can gain early qualification for the 2020 final at the Worcestershire and Avon Vale events, both of which combine challenging open tracks with inviting novice and intermediate courses ideal for those starting out or stepping up in the sport.

Rounding off the season with a final qualifier, the Bicester has been rescheduled from the autumn, giving competitors a chance to test their nerve over the awesome hedges, with no let up until the last horse crosses the finish line.

Dates for the spring team chase season are as follows:

Sunday 24th March: Farmers Bloodhounds, Towcester, Northants
Sunday 31st March: Fernie, Tur Langton, Leics (Skinners’ National Championship)
