Farewell to Spike

Dear CHN
I wanted to let readers know that Tamarin Stables' great competition pony Spike sadly passed away in January. Spike competed as 'Sliding Doors' a named thought of by Sheryl Caswell as he was so swift in the jump off.
Spike came to Tamarin Stables in 1998. His first rider, Ellie Rowley enjoyed great success in Warwickshire Pony club activities including camp, teams, and trophy shows; they were a true partnership. His next rider, Sheryl followed in pretty much the same fashion enjoying equally as much success as Ellie. Next came Amy Widman; not to be upstaged, with trophies and rosettes galore, a Chase Me Charlie win at 5ft 1ins and lots of fun. Anne Sophie Gilson took on Spike, and persuaded her parents to buy him a trailer; two years of 'air miles', and rosettes followed! Then came James Chapman who represented his school, Henley High, in the winning team on more than one occasion. Spike enjoyed semi -retirement with the Chapman Family in 2011 with Jessica finding the remote button, and enjoying a lovely win at Tamarin's Jubilee Charity Show last summer.
After Christmas, a call to Spring Paddock Equine was answered quickly and compassionately. I would like to thank on Spike's behalf all the lovely riders who cared, shared, and loaned him, not to mention the pupils who he taught at the stables. A small role call: Eliza and Amy Wyatt, Flo Carruthers, Phoebe Schofield and at least 4 pupils a week over a period of fourteen years.
Thank you and rest in peace – Mr Spike.
